Chicken and turkey at Side Hill Farmers is sourced from a couple small family farms in Perryville and Smithfield, NY, both located in the center of Madison County. Chicks are started in a small warmed house and are then moved to a portable hoop house out on pasture. The chickens and turkeys receive fresh pasture every day, and are fed locally-grown certified organic and GMO-free poultry feed and minerals. (Their grain-and-pasture diet is of course supplemented by the soil and the bugs they scratch up every day!) The result is chicken and turkey with flavor not seen in supermarkets in decades. We have recently added a Finger Lakes duck farm and a rabbit farm to our list of farmers; call us for information on Duck and Rabbit availability.
Please note that we do not feature all cuts and types of poultry all the time. And we love “special cuts” and cut-to-order requests (chicken leg quarters, anyone? Bone-in turkey breast?). If you have a specific need or desire, or if the particular poultry item you’re looking for is not in the case, call us or talk to one of our Butchers. We will be delighted to prepare it for you.
